From 2009, I have worked in the mental health field, supporting individuals
through a wide range of emotional and mental health challenges including
depression, anxiety, menopause, panic attacks and living with ADHD and autism.
I have worked extensively with vulnerable adults within the community experiencing homelessness, relationship breakdown, addiction (including drug and alcohol dependency). In addition, counselling those suffering work and study related stress, PTSD, current and past abuse, loss and bereavement, low self-esteem and confidence.
As a member of the community, I welcome LGBTQ+ individuals and provide a safe and affirming space for issues related to gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity.
When looking at my life and work experience leading up to becoming a counsellor, I notice the path I took was varied: Some of my working life more obviously and directly enriched my understanding and knowledge of my counselling skills such as community housing support and advice and supporting adults with learning disabilities. Other career choices such as, earlier in life, my 20 years as a musical instrument maker/repairer are not directly linked to Person Centred Counselling however I absolutely draw on the creativity, practical skills and experience I gained and can see the parallels of honing an instrument to play its best sound. These are the skills I endeavour to help my clients find and hone for themselves.
My Approach to Counselling:
I am a qualified Person Centred counsellor. What this means is that rather than giving advice or telling you what to do, person-centred counselling is about helping you discover your own solutions and strengths. I believe you are the expert in your own life, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. My role is to guide and support you as you explore your thoughts and feelings, helping you gain clarity and confidence unlocking your potential by offering insight, support and practical tools.I take a compassionate, empathetic approach to counselling, always respecting your pace and needs. Whether you’re seeking relief from overwhelming emotions, trying to break free from old patterns, or simply looking for a supportive space to talk, I’m here to help. This approach is about empowering you to reconnect with your inner resources and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.
In addition to my professional training, I bring personal experience of overcoming challenges with the help of counselling.
